The Huntington Arts Council, Main Street Gallery is proud to announce “Beyond the Veil” Juried Portrait Show, Kevin W. McEvoy Juror. The opening reception is August 19th, 6-8 pm at the Main Street Gallery, 213 Main Street, Huntington. The exhibition is on display through Saturday, September 10, 2016. This is a free event. All are welcome to attend.
Juror Kevin W. McEvoy provided these words of inspiration to the artists submitting work to enter the “Beyond the Veil” exhibition. “Authors, poets, mythologists, theologians, and artists have for millennia pondered the disparity between the inner world of humanity and the outward surface. The visual art of portraiture is an extraordinarily powerful exploratory tool by which we reconcile or expose the chasm between the inner and outer workings. A paintbrush in the hands of a skilled portrait painter is as a scalpel in the hands of a skilled surgeon- a rolling back of the uppermost layers, to see the workings beneath- whereby we see beyond the veil.”
Congratulations to all of the artists chosen for this show; Larry Aarons, RoseAnn Albanese, Andrea Attias, Marlene Bezich, Joanne Biller, Debra Bonewald, Kathy Cunningham, Vicki Dollin, Jim Finlayson, William Graf, Donna Grossman, Jan Guarino, Gerry Hirschstein, Shelley Holtzman, David Jaycox Jr, Alison Lovett, Linda Magliato, E. “A mastery of craftsmanship and poetic statement is found in the portrait works of the exhibiting artists in the Beyond the Veil exhibition at the Huntington Arts Council. As a portrait artist, it was my honor to jury the entrants to this show, and a joy to witness that Long Island artists are standing on the shoulders of the artistic giants who came before them, and reaching new heights in expressing their own, individuals voices.” said Kevin
Join us for the opening reception to congratulate the artists and have the opportunity to meet Kevin.
Please note the gallery will close early on Friday, September 2 @3:00pm and closed on Saturday, September 3rd in observance of Labor Day Weekend.
